When I think about skirts below the knee I always think of women in the 1950s wearing them with belts and blouses and dusting their homes with a feather duster while waiting for their husbands to get home from running their soda shop.
Everyone owned a soda shop and a feather duster in the ’50s, right?A few seasons ago while working in the Missoni showroom, a lot of the sample skirts I tried on were below the knee. I remember thinking that there's no way women were going to be into that trend again. Fast forward a few years and BAM -- I've got a couple hanging in my closet and I LOVE them!
When I go shopping, I like to grab a few things that I normally wouldn't wear just to see if I could be surprised. I was at Zara a month ago and saw this adorable high-waisted pastel purple pleated skirt and took it to the dressing room. I fell in love. It fit great around my waist and was loose enough to not stick to my thighs. I always have a problem with skirts fitting well around my waist but hugging my thighs.
Zara $79
I wore it with a gray crop top (also from Zara) and some heels. It had just enough fabric to not be see-through or cause bulkiness.
It's all I ever want to wear. Zara has been my go-to for basics for the past few years. The best store (in my opinion) is on 5th Ave and 52nd Street in NYC. It always has more sizes in stock and it's gigantic.
Zara is killing it with the midi skirts this season. I may be buying these in my near future:

I'm all about wearing sneakers with skirts and dresses. Maybe it's the Courtney Love or Rayanne from My So Called Life in me, but wearing super feminine clothing with gross dirty sneakers makes me really happy. This chick knows what I'm talking about:

I am so close to rocking tulle skirts. I want to so badly but I have a huge fear of looking like a drunk princess. Alyssa makes it look so easy and chic. I think the secret is finding one that's not too frilly or bulky. I'm loving this one with the blue shirt:

Here are three from ASOS that I love too:

And just in case you're not quite sold on this trend yet, here are a few things you can do in long skirts that you can't do in short skirts:
1. Bend over.
2. Forget to shave your legs.
3. Wear your unattractive period underwear without fear of someone accidentally seeing them.
If that's not enough to convince you, I don't know what will. For those of you who are already into the midi skirt trend: Would you wear them with sneakers or are you scared of looking like a toddler that got into their mom's closet?
