
When I saw the picture on my Twitter feed of two men dressed in riot gear and holding what looked like a high-powered weapon on a tank in Ferguson, Missouri, I knew that things were about to get a little weird.
But when I came home, turned on my television and saw tear gas being fired on residents peacefully protesting the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, I couldn’t look away.
No one can.
This isn’t America.
In America we don’t stop people from protesting by the use of tear gas and rubber bullets.
We don’t arrest reporters for doing their jobs.
We don’t tell people that they’re not allowed to gather and march. But as this set of responses from Twitter will indicate, America isn’t America anymore….
